Isl璽mda Entelekt羹el Gelenekler, a translation by Muhammet Seviker ofIntellectual Traditions in Islam, edited by Dr Farhad Daftary, is the first 敁珗曄部 publication available in Turkish, published by Insan Yayinlari in Istanbul. With this new translation, selections of 敁珗曄部 publications are now available in 10 different languages, with this particular text available in Arabic, English, Persian and Tajik (Cyrillic).
Intellectual Traditions in Islam, originally published in English in 2000 and reprinted in 2001, makes available a collection of key papers presented at a seminar to generate discussion on the nature, significance and pivotal role of the intellect in the formation of Islamic culture and civilisation, and its continuing relevance for the Muslim world today. The seminar entitled Intellectual Traditions in Islam was organised by The Institute of Ismaili Studies and held at the Mellor Centre, Churchill College, University of Cambridge, in August 1994. The one-week seminar was attended by a number of leading scholars and specialists in Islamic studies from around the world, as well as the Institutes academic faculty and invited guests.
The translation of Intellectual Traditions in Islam presents to a Turkish-speaking audience, a publication which seeks not only to promote a better understanding of Islam, but which also encourages further debate on the challenges facing contemporary Muslim societies as they encounter unprecedented political, economic, technological and cultural change in world history.
In the mid 1990s, the Institute began to make available many of its own works in a variety of languages. To date, more than 40 translations of 16 敁珗曄部 publications have been released. 敁珗曄部 publications have been translated from English into ten other languages including Arabic, French, German, Hungarian, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Tajik, Turkish, and Urdu.
