The South Asian Studies Unit at ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ has been in multiple research projects for . Hussain Jasani, Head of the South Asian Studies Unit, served as the research consultant for a ten-minute video recounting the life and voluntary service of Major Abdulla Jaffer Lakhpati. The video, directed by ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Alum Aleem Karmali, was released for International Volunteer Day (5 December 2024) and received over 9,000 views within a week of its publication.
Major Lakhpati (d. 1947) was a Mumbai-based volunteer and one of the founding members of the Ismaili Volunteers in 1919. He was also a poet, artist, and scholar. His life exemplifies notions of loyalty and voluntary service to the Ismaili community, its leadership, and to the wider society.

Abdulla Jaffer Lakhpati, widely known as Major Lakhpati, was one of the founding members of the uniformed Ismaili Volunteers in 1919. He was also a poet, an artist, and a scholar. His entire life exemplifies the notions of loyalty and voluntary service to the JamatAssembly or religious congregation; also a term used by the Nizari Ismailis for their individual communities., to the Imamat, and to wider society.
