Majid Montazer Mahdi is a historian of Islamic law. He is currently a Muslim Biomedical Ethics project researcher at the Institute of Ismaili Studies. Majid was trained as an Islamic legal scholar at Tehran University. He received his MA degree in Muslim Cultures from Aga KhanA title granted by the Shah of Persia to the then Ismaili Imam in 1818 and inherited by each of his successors to the Imamate. University-Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations in 2012. He got his Ph.D. in Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter. His dissertation deals with biographical dictionaries of ShiÊ¿i ulama written in the 17th and 18thÌý³¦±ð²Ô³Ù³Ü°ù¾±±ð²õ.
Before joining ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡, he was an AHRC Research Associate at the University of Oxford. Majid is also a cultural historian of the Persianate world. He has contributed to the  project and the  by editing Arabic and Persian manuscripts and documents. His recent article on the legal practices in the premodern Islamic world will appear in the Journal of American Oriental Society. His articles have appeared in  Ìý²¹²Ô»åÌý
